He played for Chino Hills High School. In his first game,
he scored 27 points as a starter.
After the winning streak, his team suffered its first loss on February 4 when LaMelo scored 37 points against Oak Hills Academy. In the next game on February 7,
he scored an incredible 92 points, becoming the second-youngest player in California high school history to do so.
His team was removed from the Hophal Classic tournament
because event organizers failed to meet a $10,000 demand from associates of the Ball family in order for Ball to play.
He joined the Hawks through the NBL Next Stars program,
which aims to develop NBA draft prospects.
The Charlotte Hornets selected Ball with the third overall pick. (20.1ppg)
On February 16, Ball had 28 points, 10 assists and a career-high 12 rebounds in a 120–110 win over the San Antonio Spurs. He became the second youngest player in NBA
history to reach 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists in his career, behind only LeBron James.
