Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (born 16 February 1990), known by his stage name The Weeknd, is a Canadian singer, songwriter and music producer. Tesfaje anonymously posted several songs on YouTube called "The Weeknd" in 2010, and also released critically acclaimed mixtapes "House of Balloons", "Thursday" and "Echoes of Silence" in 2013. [2] The mixtapes were later re-recorded and released on a compilation album called "Trilogy" (2012), after signing a contract with Republic Records and making his own label "XO". Tesfaje had three number one albums on the U.S. best-selling music album Billboard 200 ("Beauty Behind the Madness" in 2015, "Starboy" in 2016 and "My Dear Melancholy" in 2018), as the album that reached second place on the same list ("Kiss Land" in 2013). There are eight songs that reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 list: "Love Me Harder" with Ariana Grande; "Earned It"; "I Feel It Coming"; "Pray for Me" with Kendrick Lamar; "Call Out My Name"; and singles that reached number one: "The Hills," "Can't Feel My Face," and "Starboy." In 2015, Tesfaje became the first artist to hold the top three on the Billboard list of the best rhythm and blues songs with the songs "Can't Feel My Face", "Earned It" and "The Hills". Tesfaje won three Grammys and nine Juneau Awards.
